Andrew Malec
Co-Founder
Andrew is originally from Atlanta, GA and arrived in Athens in 1999 to attend the University of Georgia and study Photojournalism. He began his construction career working part-time for a custom home builder while still a student at UGA. The education he received while on construction sites taught him the craft and dedication needed to assemble a space from beginning to end. In 2008, Andrew established his first company, Timberlane Construction, which focuses on high-end residential remodels and new construction. This business continues to thrive throughout the Athens area. In an effort to address Athens’ need for a contemporary and design-minded commercial and residential contracting company, Andrew partnered with Zack in 2014 to create Character Built.
Zack Brendel
Co-Founder
Raised in Atlanta, Zack moved to Athens in 1999 to attend the University of Georgia to study Environmental Economics and Management. He first worked in construction after graduating college when a friend asked him to help on a local residential build. One project led to another and another, and soon he was working full-time in the construction industry. Zack also studied carpentry and woodworking for several years before starting his first business in 2008, Oneta Woodworks. Oneta quickly earned a reputation for talented carpentry, custom furniture, and high-end millwork. Zack joined with Andrew to establish Character Built in 2014, to develop a leading commercial and residential construction company wherein clients can expect a well-built and distinctive product.
With Andrew’s onsite construction knowledge, Zack’s woodworking skills and a long history with local trades, Character Built Construction serves as a commercial construction company where clients can expect a well built and unique product.
